Founded on rbuwc.com as a tiny birding list in 1998, RBUWC is now one of the largest community-led basin conservancies.
Our mission
We let water decide where water wants to go.
For a century we straightened rivers, drained marshes and cut floodplains. RBUWC reverses that: we remove dams, plug old ditches, plant native willow, alder and sedge, then step back. Nature does the heavy lifting — we just monitor, protect and invite people in.

Is entry really free? +
Yes. All trails, hides and boardwalks are free, dawn to dusk. Night tours and canoe hire cost $12–$25 to fund rangers. Members get priority booking.
Can I bring dogs / fish / camp? +
Dogs on short leash on marked trails only (otters stress easily). Catch-and-release fishing with permit in 2 zones. No camping inside core reserve — partner meadows 10 min away.
How can I volunteer? +
Plantings every Saturday Oct–Mar, bird counts monthly, water testing weekly. No experience needed. Sign up via contact form — we reply within 48h.
Where does my donation go? +
82% directly to land, water and species; 12% education; 6% admin. Annual audit published on this domain. $25 = 10 willows + guard.
Is it kid / wheelchair friendly? +
4.2 km step-free floating boardwalk, accessible hides, tactile maps, quiet hour 9–10am. River classrooms welcome ages 5+.
